CLASSES

Bella Fabrics' program of classes are taken by dedicated and talented teachers, both local and interstate, each
bringing their individual talent and creativity to the classes they take.
Classes cover quilting, dressmaking, appliqué, embroidery,
EPP, crochet, to name a few.
​
All classes include light refreshments. Bring your own lunch or we can place an order for you from a local café.

Petra Prins - Patchwork: 2 Day Workshop
​

Monogram Class with Yvette Stanton
2 Day Workshop
​
Yvette Stanton is a world renowned whitework expert known as the Whitework Queen. Yvette adores crisp white stitches on crisp white fabric - the height of elegance. Yvette has published 11 highly regarded step-by-step books on embroidery; the most recent being "Hardanger Filling Stitches".
​
If you have ever tried to create picture perfect satin stitch, you will know how difficult this can be!
​
During the workshop, Yvette will take you through how to make beautiful, smooth satin stitch that simply sings. Yvette will also take you through other stitches in the design. Using your choice of letter, create a beautiful whitework monogram that can be made into a cushion or lingerie bag.
​
The 2 day workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday , 4th and 5th May from 10am to 3pm.
The class cost is $220 plus the kit.

Wind in the Willows Class.
​
Learn how to make the much loved Wind in the Willows character - Ratty - in this delightful handmade project using wool felt.
​

Coverstitch - Sew Much More Than Just a Hem
​
This workshop is designed improve your grasp of your coverstitch machine or the coverstitch side of your combination machine. The workbook covers the basics - finishing in the round, reverse coverstitch, differential feed and decorative coverstitch and chain stitch. The last section of the workbook is focussed on you - use the time to have your questions answered, bring the problems you have encountered and we'll help you achieve better results.
​
Participants are required to bring:​

Their own coverstich or combination machine.

Foot control and power lead.

Accessories - screw drivers, tweezers, for example.
-
Spare needles - the correct system for your machine in size 14's.

All extra accessory feet and attachments, i.e. binders (if you want to explore knit binders then please bring the fabric you intend working with).

Instruction manual.

4 spools of good quality thread (maxilock, seracor and rasant are recommended.
-
If you want to learn fabric making - bring one piece of printed or plan chiffon fabric, 40 cm wide x 140/150 cm long, one spool of variegated thread (maxilock swirls work well in most) and 3 polyester threads (can be different colours which coordinate with fabric or variegated thread - maxilock swirls are ideal for this).

Any fabrics you are finding difficult to work with on a coverstitch or pieces you need help achieving a better result with.

Learning To Love Your Overlocker - with Kate Marra
​
This one-day course (5-6 hours) gives students a greater understanding of their overlocker and allows them to continue using it confidently at home. The kit provided includes a comprehensive 23 page booklet and all fabrics required for the day. The course covers four thread overlocking, three thread overlocking, rolled hem, understanding differential feed, techniques for better results when stitching a circle, corners and working with difficult fabrics.

Learning to Love Your Overlocker - Fabulous Flatlock Extension One
​
A full one day class 5-6 hours - the first extension to the Learning to Love your Overlocker course.
This course provides an extensive coverage of flatlocking and ladder stitch with the course workbook covering wide and narrow flatlocking, various decorative applications including ribbon work, decorative thread, beading, lace insertion and creating a blind hem stitch.
The course workbook will be completed in the first part of the day. The second part of the day focusses on making a project - a beautiful and easy to construct notebook cover - allowing you to use techniques covered in the course.
Participants will be provided with all required fabrics to complete both the workbook and your related project.
This course is perfect for all skill levels and the class cost is $140.

Tuesday’s Table
​
Join Louise Papas every second Tuesday or every fourth Friday of the month for a fun session of hand stitching and a cuppa. Louise has designed many hand pieced quilts including The Avenue and Girl Next Door and will share her knowledge and love of hand piecing, hand quilting and needle turn appliqué. Bring your own work in progress or get Louise’s guidance on starting something new from the range available in store. Beginners and more advanced welcome.

Luna Lapin Class
​
Join Carolyn to learn how to make Luna Lapin, the delightful, quiet and kind bunny. Class runs from 10am to 3pm

Susan Smith Classes
​
We're excited to having Susan once again teaching at Bella Fabrics in 2023. Susan's classes include:
​
AppliquÄ— and needle point turn classes: Susan, a long time quilter who excels in the art of appliqué and hand piecing, takes classes in appliqué and needle point turn.
Classes are scheduled on the 1st Wednesday and the 3rd Sunday of each month. Wednesday classes cost $75 and are scheduled for 7th June, 5th July, 6th September, 4th October, 1st November and 6th December.
Sunday classes cost $85 and are scheduled for 21st May, 18th June, 23rd July, 17th September, 22nd October and 19th November.
​
Frippery Embroidery class: Comprising a set of 6, bi-monthly classes, each class will include a variety of projects - exquisite little zooshed up bags, needle-books, Christmas projects - using different, simple stitching techniques. There will also be projects continuously worked on across the 6 classes.
Scheduled class #1 dates are 27th May, 29th July, 30th September and 25th November.

Scheduled class #2 dates are 28th May, 16th July, 10th September and 12th November.
​
The cost per class is $95 and includes patterns and some supplies.

Summer School: Susan will be again teaching at our Summer School scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday 27th and 28th December and Tuesday and Wednesday 2nd and 3rd January. There will be 2 projects (participants can do either or both):
1. Harlequin's Carnival - an appliqué and paper pieced quilt.
2. Little Bag - Kitty goes to Paris.

Evie Bias Skirt Class

Tesutti's Evie bias skirt is a floaty and flared mid length skirt, designed to flatter the body. It looks fabulous worn casually or dressed up.
